Description:
One of the landmarks of Wolcott is the statue of “Venus Rising From the Sea” located at the four corners in downtown Wolcott. The statue itself is made of cast zinc. The original fountain base was an open iron octagon with drinking faucets at every corner. Wolcott's Venus is one of several other sister statues in America from Newport, RI to Coronado, CA and Proctor, VT to Old Louisville, KY. The statue arrived in September 1913. It was felt that with the installation of a public water system in the village, there should be some kind of public drinking fountain “for both man and beast” at the site of the old town pump and four corners.

A statue of "Venus arising from the sea" was purchased for $875 in 1913 to mark a public drinking fountain at a natural spring. This statue was one of eight and still stands proudly in the center of the village.
