Waters-Dunning House Address: 4025 West Lake Road, Pultneyville Original Owner: Zimri Waters Mason: Philip Wemesfelder or Cotrell (records conflict) Carpenter: Rufus Moses was employed 1851-1852 (sometimes he’s listed as the mason). Year Built: 1850-1852 Period: Late Style: Greek Revival Zimri Waters paid $350 plus some farm produce to have his home built. His ledger states that he paid three men to draw stone. One of these was Jacob DeWine who was paid for “one cord stone blocks, too, from the canal” presumably used for quoins or corner blocks. Rufus Moses was paid for the collection of sand and lime as well as for his labor. The porch on the wing is original, but the porch on the main house with white columns was added in the 20th century. Sidelights and a transom frame the front door and the wide frieze sports original cast iron grills on the front. The water-rounded red sandstone cobbles on the front and sides came from the Sodus area. They're set 6 courses between each cut limestone quoin on the front. |
