Inscription:

First Road in Williamson built by Charles Williamson in 1794 - Called the Old Sodus Road Between Palmyra and Sodus Bay.

Note:
This historic marker notes the first road coming from the southwestern corner of Wayne County at Palmyra to Sodus Bay on the north, constructed in 1794. Captain Charles Williamson, agent for the Pultney Estates, set out for Great Sodus Bay and the shores of Lake Ontario with a group of laborers, surveyors and builders to create a settlement. Several houses, a tavern, a gristmill, a sawmill, and a pleasure craft were built. His route from Palmyra to the lakeshore took him through the hamlet of East Williamson.
