Description:
Marker is in Williamson, New York, in Wayne County. Marker is at the intersection of Main Street/Ridge Road and Lake Ave/South Ave (Route 21), on the right (SW corner) when traveling east on Main Street/Ridge Road.

Built 1807 by Major William Rogers. Used for tavern, store, and post office. Settlement was called Rogers Corners

Erected 1935 by State Education Department. 

The following from an article by the late Chester Peters, Williamson Historian, on Major William Rogers.
"Rogers came to Western New York in 1792 from Rhode Island. He was an early Judge in Ontario County. Wayne County was part of Ontario County until 1823. He was a representative to the Legislature. He was the father-in-law of Pomeroy Tucker, editor of the Wayne Sentinel of Palmyra Later he had a farm near Pultneyville. He married Samuel Throop's widow. In 1807 he moved from Palmyra to the four corners in Williamson, opening a public house, and the intersection
became known as Rogers Corners. Rogers succeeded in 1809-10 in getting an act passed by the State Legislature for the construction of a bridge over the Genesee River at the point of what is now Rochester, and was one of the commissioners for laying out the plans for Ridge Road."
