The Free Church, or Society, of Ontario was organized in 1866. In 1867 the meeting for incorporation was held and George Willard, Charles Huston and Willard Rodgers were elected the first trustees to serve for one year. In the same year the church was formally incorporated as the First Free Methodist church of Ontario, Wayne County, New York. In 1895 the first resident pastor was appointed. and a home was purchased across the street for a parsonage. The church closed in the 1960s. The building still stands as a private residence.
