A log building was built early on or near the present site and in 1830, the old Tipple house was built and used for a school. One of the teachers was “famous” for drying a pupil’s wet boots and shoes by taking to foot in his hand and giving it a terrible beating with a ruler. In 1840, a stone building was erected and around 1876 a wooden building was constructed. Stones from the old building were tumbled into the space enclosed and a new schoolhouse rose on the ruins. This building burned around 1955. |
