The Plaque says: World War Cannon (250 mm German Mine Launcher) Between 1910 - 1918. The Rheinmetall Factory of Germany produced 1,234 of the heavy trench mortars. They could hurl 97kg (210 lb) high- explosive shells up to 550 meters. This gun was a war trophy given by the U.S. government to the Village of Clyde in 1925. It was placed here in honor of local soldiers who lost their lives during World War One. |
