The sign says: IRON WORKS EST. CA. 1831 ON THIS SITE MADE FARM IMPLEMENTS. LATER EXPANDED TO MAKE BOILERS, ENGINES. CLOSED 1954 WILLIAM C. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2018 530 S.W. Wood was one of three owners of the Iron Works established in 1866 which, a year later became S.W. Wood and Co. It was known for making stationary steam engines which were taken to farmer's fields to power machinery used at harvest time. The Galen Historical Society Museum has an engine body in its exhibit. |
