Margaret Merhoff, Wayne County Historian, found in the attic of her home at No. 25 High Street, Sodus, a quantity of old photographic plates, from which this 1897 picture was printed. The house was once occupied by Mrs. Bert Stacy, the widow of Bert Stacy who at one time was a photographer at Alton. It is believed this picture was taken by him in the late 1890’s.South Sodus Schoolhouse was a single-room schoolhouse that served students in the South Sodus area for several generations. It closed in 1944 and is now a private home. In April 1944 (see photo above), it was decided to close the school and to have the children be included in Lyons Central School District.
