The Old Huron Town Hall was built is 1849. Used as the government building until 1979 when the new Huron Town Hall on Lummisville Road was opened, the building is now home to the Town of Huron's collection of historic artifacts and serves as the historical archives. The exhibit collections fall into the themes of domestic, recreational, and agricultural. Special items in the collection are a pump organ from the late 1800s that is believed to have been used to teach music during the early 1900s in one of the local one-room schoolhouses, an apple grader and fanning mill both from the early 1900s, and a dollhouse that was built in Huron circa 1850. There is a room dedicated to the town of Huron's vast waters and shores: Lake Ontario, Sodus Bay, East Bay, and Port Bay. This room is called the "John Powell Water Room". John Powell was a former historian for the Town of Huron. John loved the water, especially Sodus Bay. He was an avid postcard and memorabilia collector of all things related to our bays and Lake Ontario in the town of Huron. |
