Historic narrative: | |||||
The Bell Schoolhouse was a single room schoolhouse that taught children for a number of generations. As other area small schoolhouses in the area shutdown in the 1930s and 1940s, the children were transferred here. Students from Centenary and Middle Road were bussed to this school when their school was closed. Miss Rogers was a teacher here in the 40's. She was from Williamson. Students from Morse Hill were sent here when their school closed in 1937. The playground had swings and a teeter totter. When recess was inside, they played checkers and they had a bean bag game. Miss Clara Grimm was a beloved teacher who taught here along at several other local schools. In 1950, the Bell School closed down due to centralization at the Sodus Central Schools. It is now a private home.
