Jeduthan, Nov 17, 1848 91y, War of 1812 Inf Jeduthan Moffat was a friend of Captain Charles Williamson who was the appointed land agent to develop the Sodus Bay, Pultneyville and Williamson area. John Graves Simcoe, the Governor of Canada may have thought that the region south of Lake Ontario belonged to the King of England or more likely thought that he could bluff Williamson, sent a protest by messenger ordering him to vacate the country within the Old French Line. Jeduthan Moffat was the person who delivered this message to Captain Charles Williamson stating that a meeting was requested to be held between the two men at Sodus Point in ten days time . You can read the interesting story of the subsequent tense meeting in Sodus Point that ensued: http://historicsoduspoint.com/quirky-stories/first-meeting-in-our-town/ Captain Charles Williamson would later appoint Jeduthan Moffat as a land agent and farm land in the vicinity sold for one dollar and a half an acre, To search for an individual buried here, click this link: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/64168 For a list of those buried here, click this link: http://wayne.nygenweb.net/cemeteries/centencem.html |
