Lyman Hinsdale Sherwood (1828-1901), founder of Lyons Musical Academy in 1854, lived here. After his death William Taylor and his family moved into this house, including his son Myron C. Taylor. Myron Taylor served as Chair of the Board of Directors of US Steel Corporation and later its Chief Executive Officer. He was appointed during the Second World War as a “Special Envoy” to Pope Pius XII in 1939 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, a position he continued to hold under the Presidency of Harry S. Truman. In 1944 this building was given to the town for use as a Community Center. (Source: Pomeroy Foundation Website)
