This house was built in 1832 by Dr. Elisha R. Wright who served Marion as a doctor for 40 years and was occupied continuously by three generations of the Wright-Russell-Merson family. Dr. Allen Steele Russell(whose family were early settlers in Williamson) married Dr. Wright''s daughter, Emily. Dr. Russell served in the NYS Assembly, as a doctor in Marion and was a Civil War surgeon serving in Washington, DC in General Hardin’s 55th division. He was also a pharmacist with a storefront in Clark’s Block for a time. He briefly was in charge of the Marion Collegiate Institute as well. The Merson''s also occupied the house for many years. A William G. Pomeroy Foundation historic marker was added in November, 2021.
