The William Luce House is situated at 2792 Shilling Road, Palmyra. It was built of lake stone with a large chimney at either end. A marble plate over the door reads "W. L. 1839. "The alternate slanting of the lake stones is an exclusive feature of this house. The stones are very well graded, and the mason work is well done. |

Luce House Address: 2792 Shilling Road, Palmyra Original Owner: William Luce Year Built: 1839 William Luce had “W. L., 1839” inscribed over the entrance of his stately 2-story home. He used multi-colored, oval, lake-washed cobbles and arranged them diagonally in a herringbone design. Limestone set on edge forms the lintels over the windows and the front door. In 1970 Mr. and Mrs. Eugene East purchased this home. Among the many improvements they made was to add a wooden mantle for the kitchen fireplace that was hand-carved by 80-year-old artist, Michael Corbitt, to depict an Erie Canal scene. |
