Description of this building: This building was the First National Bank of North Rose opened in November 1927. Originally this two story brick building had just one interior floor with a 20 foot high ceiling and many large windows providing copious amounts of light. The architects were Gordon and Kalebaer of Rochester. Otis A. Gray of North Rose was in charge of constructing this magnificent bank. The materials used were brick and hollow tile. Historic narrative:
History of this building: The Stock Market Crash of 1929 caused a “run” on the bank. Even though the town’s largest investors helped by not withdrawing their money, the bank eventually “went under” and closed in 1931. In 1937, the Masonic Society of North Rose purchased the building and divided the interior with a second floor, creating meeting space upstairs and business rental space downstairs. Starting in the mid 1970s, several National Banking Association corporations opened “branch” offices in the structure, but in 1994 the building was closed permanently. In 2007, the Rose Historical Society purchased the building and is now home to the historical society and their collections.
